Ow, my head--

So, uh. Sorry to worry you guys! You can ignore that thing the other day... this stupid thing wasn't supposed to turn on.

I'm just fine, really! Though I'm gonna have to spring for a new coat whenever I get home... man, dry-cleaning isn't gonna cut it for this kind of stuff.

That aside... uh, well, since I'm in the hospital anyway, you guys need help? I can wrap bandages with the best!

Even when this situation is resolved, there will always be more killing and violence. It seems the scientists collected a wonderful cross-section for their social experiment.

[sighing audibly]

I wish I didn't agree with you. ...Though I'm not sure this is an experiment on our society.

Should rumor prove true and they're trying to rebuild their world, transplanting individuals from one world to another to form a colony is a social experiment, though a pathetic one.

Constantly reviving their evidence of failure when the experiment falls apart, rather than beginning a new one, just proves that - as a whole - we are in this for the long haul.

If they want their world rebuilt, they're going about it the wrong way. Seems like they know who they're picking, but they still bring murderers; seems like they have access to technology advanced way past my world's, but they aren't even using it to clear debris.

There's something else behind this. I'm just not sure what it is... or if it's anything more than madness.

No matter what it is, knowing is likely not going to get us home any faster. At this point, we may very well just rats in a maze, pets in an obstacle course. It's all so very degrading.

...I wouldn't mind being a rat in a maze so much if it came with more snacks and fewer electric shocks. Metaphorically.

You didn't strike me as one so driven by rewards.

If that is the case, it's a miracle you have any drive at all in a place like this.

I was wondering if that might be it. I'm amazed you've lasted for so long in your own world, clinging to such an impossibility.

Hunh. How generous of your superiors; I'd fire you in an instant. Who wants a Reaper that fails at their job? Undermining the natural course of nature is pretty dangerous business, don't you think?

To be honest, I don't know why I haven't been ...moved on. Or demoted to tea-maker. Tatsumi threatens that every once in a while.

And the natural course of things isn't ...all that easy to undermine. Human motivations, sometimes. Nature, never.

I'm not a miracle worker, just a god of death.

If that's the case, doesn't it matter even more that you can manage changing anything at all?

Maybe. Even so... I'll never save as many as I've killed.
